The
academic curriculum at Highgate aims
to introduce students at each level to
intellectual stimulation and challenging
ideas. Academic study in lessons and
at home is supplemented with a multitude
of visits, activities and talks.
Year
9
Breadth of intellectual experience
is the primary aim in Year 9: students study
a wide range of subjects, and we hope this
will enable them to make well-informed
choices for future study.
GCSE
During the course of Year 9 students
make decisions about which subjects to
study for GCSE. At Highgate students usually
take nine GCSE subjects.
AS and A2
As students approach Y12, the
first year of the Sixth Form, they are
asked to focus their interest on four subjects.
Students discuss with teachers, and their
tutor and Housemaster, and also take a
careers test and interview to help them
determine what direction they might best
follow. Students choose four subjects for
examination at AS, at the end of Year 12,
and then usually continue with three or
four of these in Year 13.
