About the Junior School
Who we are
Highgate Junior School aims to ensure that every child from Year 3 to Year 6 is excited about learning. We want our children to grow in confidence, enthusiasm and independence. With our spacious grounds and facilities, allied to the most forward thinking teaching methods, we offer a creative, stimulating environment for children and aim to nurture a lifelong love of learning. Situated within walking distance of Kenwood House and Hampstead Heath, our intake reflects the diversity of modern London, as we seek to expose our children to the very best that London has culturally to offer.
The Junior School has very close links with the Senior School, to which girls and boys transfer at eleven, thus providing a secure continuity of education. The Junior School does not prepare pupils for other senior independent schools. The Principal, is a member of the Incorporated Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS).
Structure and Facilities
There are about 300 children in the Cholmeley and Ingleholme buildings in 4 year groups. Year groups are zoned within the school and Year 6 enjoy their own building in which further to develop their independence in preparation for Senior School.
The school is served by the Principal, a Senior Management team of 3 deputies and 20 full- and part-time teaching staff. There are a number of support staff and classroom assistants as well as peripatetic music staff and learning support teachers.
The Junior School has two Information Technology and Communications Centres and its own Music Centre and Dance Studio. Art and Design Technology are taught in the Foundation’s excellent Art, Design and Technology Centre, The Mills Centre.
