Be the Change
ON 30TH JANUARY OUR YEAR 9'S TRIED TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE
As part of this year’s new look PSHE program, every Year 9 student has the opportunity to ‘Be the Change’ to society and deliver a project here at school or in the surrounding community.
On Tuesday 30th January it was Midgate, Kingsgate and The Lodge’s turn to put several lessons worth of careful planning, spread over two terms, into action as they embarked on their ‘Day of Change’. Posters appeared all around school raising awareness for charities like the British Deaf Association and issues such as food waste and recycling.
Further afield, one half of Midgate’s tutor group, led by Mr Armstrong, donned their plastic gloves and opened their bin liners in order tackle the littered streets of Highgate village for Haringey council. Not to be out done, the other half of year 9 Midgate found a number of ways in which to show their appreciation for our dining room staff including gifting a hand selected hamper of goodies and making a public announcement of thanks on the megaphone during Junior lunch. Their efforts led Mr Constable to declare them ‘a truly inspiring group of individuals’.
In all, it proved a day of great success and with still half the year group to participate, look out for many more efforts from those in year 9 to bring about a positive change to the community in the upcoming year.
