Art visit to Florence

During the Lent half term, eleven History of Art / Art students accompanied by Dr Jammers, Miss Hurr and Mr Tweedale visited the city of Florence for five days. Their purpose was to see and learn about Renaissance art and architecture relevant to their A level studies and to savour the highlights of the city’s cultural past and present.

A very full itinerary was successfully completed including visits to the Uffizi Gallery, Bargello, San Marco, Duomo Museum, Santa Croce, Palazzo Vecchio, Loggia dei Lanzi, Pazzi Chapel, San Miniato, S. Maria del Carmine Brancacci Chapel, the Accademia, Santa Maria Novella, The Baptistery, Palazzo Medici, San Lorenzo. A highlight of our visit was a private tour around the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, one of Italy’s most famous restoration facilities. There, we were uniquely privileged to stand inches away from some of Italy’s greatest masterpieces. Thanks go to Simon Martini of Highgate’s Capital Projects team for arranging this.

It was a truly inspirational visit. GHT
