AutoSoc on the Rails

On the last Sunday of the Lent term, Dr Szydlo, Mr Aston and Mr Nairne took a group of five amateur engineering enthusiasts from the Automobile Society on a trip to the Bluebell Railway in Sussex: one of the country's finest preserved steam lines. As well as a full return trip in the cosy compartments of some traditional early BR rolling stock, the group also enjoyed a visit to the main locomotive shed, a look around the footplate of a Standard Class 4, a guided tour of Sheffield Park signalbox and an impromptu lecture on the workings of the Automatic Vacuum Brake. CPN
