Battlefield Visit
On Friday 11 June at 4.30am, 51 Year 9 pupils departed for the World War One battlefields. We first went to Ypres, where we visited many cemeteries, saw a reconstructed trench, attended a ceremony at the Menin Gate Memorial and, of course, did some chocolate shopping. The next day we travelled to the Somme battlefield where the names of 72,000 missing British and Commonwealth soldiers who fought during the Battle of the Somme are recorded on the Thiepval Memorial.
