British Library Visit
On Tuesday 13 October and Thursday 15 October, pupils in Year 5 paid a visit to the British Library.
The pupils were given the opportunity to explore the extensive premises of the aforementioned institute’s gallery spaces with the intention to develop their creative thinking, visual and verbal literacy and research skills. The tour was followed by an experimental workshop entitled Play on Words, aiming to increase confidence in using language playfully and creatively.

Workshop leaders used a variety of props to open up new ways of thinking about writing, encouraging participants to experiment with language. Groups had the opportunity to explore fascinating books, letters and diaries on display in the Treasures gallery to inspire their work (ie: The Golden Haggadah, Codex Sinaiticus, Lindisfarne Gospels, Magna Carta, Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci, The Gutenberg Bible, Captain Scott’s diary, Jane Austen’s correspondence, etc.).

The children created their own piece of writing and, working collaboratively, used a range of arts materials to create a visual 'word city'. An inspiring and informative day was enjoyed by all participants. VN
