Carbon Footprint

Coinciding with the celebrations of science at Highgate between March 9th and March 13th, Lycée Boucher teachers and their Year 12 students came to make inspired presentations in English about the environment and their school’s carbon footprint to a variety of Year 7 and Year 11 classes.

The level of interaction between our students and their ‘European Class’ was exceptional and emphasised how much a positive and cooperative atmosphere can inspire students on both sides of the Channel to work beyond the narrow expectations of the GCSE curriculum. Scientific data and information were exchanged at a high level and our Year 11 students were spurred on by the Boucher students to surpass themselves and give equally challenging talks in the target language in Paris.

The best presentations were made by our small contingent of Year 12 students involved in the project: Adrian Coll and Joseph McAdam speaking on our own Carbon Footprint and Max Jamilly on endangered species in the UK got an enthusiastic accolade from the educational authorities in Paris.

May this new type of exchange thrive with the addition of Axular Liceoa in San Sebastian (Spain) who wish to start working on the carbon footprint project next term. A new theme will be introduced on biodiversity from 2010.    PLB
