Carnival Parade
This term, Highgate Junior School organised a ‘Carnival Parade’, in collaboration with three local primary schools: Highgate Primary, St Joseph’s R C Primary School and St Michael’s C of E Primary School. The Junior School children had been designing and making their headdresses and costumes in action-packed art workshops, with the Year 6 children rehearsing Samba with the wonderful ‘Rhythm Attack’ group. The day itself saw approximately 500 face-painted pupils take to the streets of Highgate Village, supported by the local Police, in a wonderful visual spectacle. The theme was linked to our Geography curriculum, where we had been exploring different climatic zones with particular focus on the human effects on the animals in these areas. Each year group made costumes for a specific zone; Rainforests and Jungles, Polar Regions, Desert environments and the African Savannah. The event culminated in a lovely family picnic on Senior Field with all the family and friends who had turned up to watch and support. LN
