Chevalier visit

Tracy Chevalier, the best-selling novelist, visited Highgate Junior School and talked to our Year 6 pupils on Tuesday, 26th January 2010.

Ms Chevalier’s career began with the book The Virgin Blue and blossomed internationally with her novel Girl with a Pearl Earring, based on the famous painting by Johannes Vermeer. The film adaptation of the novel received three Academy Award nominations in 2004.

Ms Chevalier’s other titles include: Falling Angels (2001), The Lady and the Unicorn (2003) and Burning Bright (2007), which tells a story of two children who become neighbours of William Blake in London, in the late 18th century.

Remarkable Creatures (2009), the author’s latest book is a novel depicting a revolutionary portrait of the intricate and resilient nature of female friendship, transcending social status.

Ms Chevalier worked with the pupils in four separate workshops, discussing the intricate process of fiction-writing and developing creative ideas for written work.  VN
