A Level

Of the 428 A Levels sat by year 13, nearly 62% were awarded an A grade, and a further 29% were awarded a B grade. The A/B total percentage of 91% represented a significant improvement on our previous best. 30 pupils had their places at Cambridge or Oxford confirmed. The results in the so-called 'hard' subjects were excellent, with 55 A grades in Mathematics and Further Mathematics, 38 in Economics (where no pupil achieved lower than a B grade), 17 in Biology and 16 in Physics. 32 A grades were awarded in Modern Languages, and 13 in Classics. 44 students gained three A grades, and a further 15 gained 4 or more A grades. One pupil was commended by the Edexcel examination board for being one of those who achieved the highest score in A Level Art.

GCSE

The proportion of A*/A grades reached 81% for the first time, with 500 of the 1239 papers sat awarded the top grade. In Mathematics, 57% of the year group achieved an A* grade, with a further 36% getting an A. Of those pupils who sat three separate science examinations, 92% achieved at least an A grade in Biology, 90% did so in Chemistry and 94% managed this in Physics. In English, 71% were awarded an A* or A grade, and in English Literature 32% were awarded an A*. Over 80% of all papers achieved one of the top two grades in French and in German, whilst this figure in Spanish was 85% and in Russian it was 91%. In a year group of 128 pupils, 53 of them managed at least an A grade in all of their examinations. One pupil achieved 11 A* grades and 11 pupils achieved 10 A* grades. A further 19 pupils were awarded 7, 8 or 9 A* grades. Fifteen pupils (eleven in Art, three in Russian and one in Mathematics) were commended by the Edexcel examination board for being among those who achieved the highest score in these GCSEs.
