French Afternoon
Last Friday, 26 June, Year 6 children had the chance to practise their French and build up their confidence in using the language in everyday situations. The day provided the children with the opportunity to communicate in French with native-speakers through a series of dynamic and stimulating activities in a relaxed, informal atmosphere.

The children were encouraged and supported by friendly and experienced French tutors as well as students from the Institute of Education, providing a wide array of cross-curricular activities. There were DT workshops where children built a boat, a French Café with an assortment of delicacies, as well as a classroom-based forum on weather, transportation and the environment.
The primary aim of the day was to move away from desks and dictionaries and encourage students to improvise within a supportive environment. The occasional gaps in communication were filled by gestures, intensive articulation and expressions. Indeed, almost anything – except English!
