GCSE Results 2010

Year 11 makes history: the last all-boy year group sweeps the board with school record of 61% A*; 37 pupils achieved 9 A* or more; 21 boys romp home with a full house of ten A*

Year 11 pupils, the last all-boy generation to go through Highgate School, have turned in a spectacular performance at GCSE. 61% of all exams were graded A*, beating the previous record of 45% (2005). Combined A and A* grades amounted to 86%, an advance on last year’s record of 82%. 37 pupils (30%) were rewarded with 9A* or more, of whom 21 achieved a full house of ten A*. Leo Mylonadis and Ozan Toker topped the table, each with twelve A*, to which Ozan added an A grade at AS, while Simon Blackaby included an A* for his Extended Project Qualification among his ten A* and one A.

Results included IGCSE – the international version of GCSE – English (75% A and A*), English Literature (94% A and A*) and Mathematics (86.9% A and A*). The pupils achieved over 90% of the top two grades in biology, chemistry and physics, including an amazing 100% in chemistry, while pupils in RS,  Spanish, Russian and Classical Greek also cleared the 100% A/A* hurdle.

Getting top grades across a wide range of so-called ‘hard’ subjects requires not only ability but persistent application and determination. I am delighted by all of Year 11’s record achievements and proud of them – and not just the high fliers – and of the fantastically committed, able and inspiring teachers who helped them along the way. It’s a great tribute to staff and pupils alike. Well done!
