German Exchange
The annual German Exchange with Essen-Werden Gymnasium took place during the first week of the Easter holidays with 9 pupils from Y10 and Y12 staying with German host families in the Ruhr region.

The Highgate and German parties teamed up for a range of cultural and educational activities which included a morning attending lessons, the traditional bike ride around the Baldeneyer lake and day trips to Oberhausen and Cologne.

For the first time, both parties travelled together to Hamburg for the weekend where excursions included a harbour boat trip, a guided tour of the town hall and a visit to the famous Hamburg state opera to see Verdi’s Rigoletto.

The group was blessed with 7 days of fine weather and some close friendships were forged. The German party will come to Highgate for the second leg of the exchange at the end of June. GDC
