Maths Exploration

All of Year 7 filled the Garner Quad on Friday afternoon to learn about how Islam and Judaism affected the development of Mathematics. They took part in a variety of hands-on activities including working out the size of Noah’s Arc and the direction of Mecca using the sun, discovering the use of Frieze patterns in Islamic art and why the Islamic calendar is out of sync. Perhaps the most fun of the afternoon was a demonstration of the Non-Newtonian properties of custard, ending with any willing pupils showing how easy it is to walk on a liquid.  LAP
