Paris Exchange

26 March-02 April 2010, Lycée Boucher

Paris in the spring is usually a great opportunity to spend time outdoors. Our party of 25 Year 11 and Year 12 pupils and three staff did enjoy our usual city walks, tours and monument visits in the open air. However, the protection of a glass roof was very welcome during our boat trip on the river as the chilly northerly wind meant that we also had to seek shelter in some of the lesser known Parisian attractions. The ‘Orangerie’ art collection was one of the highlights of the week with a talk focusing on Monet’s water lilies and Derain’s modernist paintings.  The visit of Fontainebleau castle was thorough and clearly demonstrated the influence of King Francis 1st and Napoleon on the architecture of this monumental building which matches Versailles in size and magnificence. The best moment, as usual with this exchange, remains the presentations given in French by our pupils to the Lycée Boucher European classes. A special accolade goes to Yoni Gordon-Teller and Gabriel Owen for their talks on the environment in Year 11 and to Ben Ware for his talk on Saint George as well as Chris Wells in Year 12 for his comprehensive presentation of the contemporary English music scene.  Patrick Le Berre
