Rapspeare Workshop

Year 6 pupils had a rare opportunity to explore Shakespeare’s world through a visit from The Bigfoot Theatre Company. Their unique programme has been designed to inspire pupils not only to explore Shakespeare’s verse, but also break any preconceived stereotypes regarding the bard.

Using contemporary rap and hip hop beats the children found new ways of connecting with Elizabethan language by smashing apart the iambic pentameter tradition and learning to articulate Shakespeare in an innovative way.

The children clearly relished the challenge of creating and performing a piece of drama from their own ideas, whilst building their confidence and self- esteem, as well as having fun along the way.
