Roald Dahl Day at the Junior School

Roald Dahl Day

To celebrate this year’s Roald Dahl Day, students in Years 3-6 (as well as Cholmeley staff) enjoyed a ‘fancy dress day’ where everybody dressed up as their favourite Dahl character or came to school dressed in bright yellow (the author’s favourite colour). Dahl’s extraordinary creations came to life on the day and, as his stories featuring them were retold, children were transported to colourfully bizarre and surreal places.

There were literacy workshops and games, story sessions, film viewings and many other fun activities (including chocolate and balloons) supporting the event on the day.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Roald Dahl Foundation: a UK-based charity, supporting children and their families in three areas: neurology, haematology and literacy.

The day proved to be not only hugely popular with the children but has also stimulated a much greater interest in the work of one of the most popular and prolific of children’s authors.
