Roald Dahl Day 09
13th September (the author’s birthday) is officially Roald Dahl Day across the world and it is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate one of the most popular and prolific children’s authors.
Children and adults alike enjoy Roald Dahl’s pleasurably wicked books. Loved for their endearing characters, mischievous sensibility, innovative style and distinctive humour; Dahl’s books introduce us to extraordinarily life-like creatures and unimaginably fantastical places and encourage our imaginations to run wild.

This year’s celebrations at Highgate Junior School were held on Wednesday, 16th September. In true fashion, children came to school dressed as Dahl-characters and participated in topic-based literacy games and reading activities. Also, the children entered competitions such as ‘The Most Revolting Recipe’, ‘The Best Confectionery Invention’, ‘The Wackiest New Word’ or ‘Nonsense Verse’.

Children in Years 3-6 raised £572.65 for the Roald Dahl Foundation; a UK-based registered charity, offering a programme of grant- giving to charities, hospitals and individuals in the UK only. They support many varied projects, in exactly the same way as Roald Dahl did when he was alive, offering practical assistance to children and their families in three areas: neurology, haematology and literacy.
All the effort by those concerned on extending this worthy initiative as far as possible is much appreciated. VN
