Sponsored Walk
On Wednesday 21 October 2009, the staff and pupil body of Highgate School took part in a sponsored 8km circuit walk of Hampstead Heath to raise money for the Great Lakes High School in Kirima, south-western Uganda.
The money raised will be used to provide continued support to the school that we helped to build with the funds generated from our last sponsored walk in 2007. Our aim is to raise £40,000 to enable the school to expand to meet the growing number of students. We would also like to help to fund some of the students at the school as it costs £180 to educate, feed and accommodate a child at Kirima for one year and many families in Uganda are not able to send their children to school due to financial constraints.
Sponsorship money is now being collected and counted. A final total will be published soon.
Thank you so much to everyone who sponsored staff and pupils for the walk, and to the Highgate School population for their efforts on the day of the walk, including those who ran it – especially Michael Allan-Dan (Year 13) who set a new course record and Mr Pettitt who completed four full laps, meaning that he ran over 20 miles for charity. The day went really well as you can see from the pictures below.
