Story Time

To mark the beginning of this year’s Readathon, pupils in Years 3 and 4 were treated to a storytelling session by Margaret Bateson-Hill on Monday 18 October.

Ms Bateson-Hill is a professional storyteller (telling stories in schools, libraries and many museums, including the Victoria and Albert Museum and the British Museum), working in the oral tradition with multicultural resources, reflecting cross-cultural links and different backgrounds.

She has published four books (Lao Lao of Dragon Mountain, Shota and the Star Quilt, Masha and the Firebird, Chanda and the Mirror of Moonlight), each story celebrating a craft that is traditional to the country of the story. Also, each title teaches the reader about the language spoken in these particular cultures: Chinese, Lakota, Russian and Hindi.

After a brief introduction, Ms Bateson-Hill told one of her stories to the children, followed by a discussion about the moral of the story and lead a creative writing session interspersed with some craft activity.  VN
