The Arbiter, Issue 5

an excerpt of the lead story 'Boris does the job'

'It was on the morning of the inauspicious Friday the thirteenth that the Editors of this august publication made a journey into the dreary depths of Shepherd’s Bush, to a press conference held by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson. But we were not there to hear about his new scheme for helping London’s homeless, as laudable and meretricious as it is; we were there to interview the Mayor for The Arbiter. After a year of attempts, foiled by diary commitments (was the holiday to Turkey really necessary?) and the small matter of his running for the most powerful directly-elected office in the realm, Boris Johnson had granted us an interview.

'It was not the first time we had clasped eyes on Mr Johnson, that in fact was at the launch for his candidacy bid well over a year ago. Now, seeing him stroll assuredly into the conference as Mayor, there was a definite sense of the cycle complete.

'We did not have a lengthy amount of time to interrogate the Mayor. As you might expect, he is one of the busiest men in politics, so our interview was hardly going to be hardhitting. This, however, was a trifling matter. For him to give a small school publication (notwithstanding its prominence) some time was prize enough.'
