Visit to MoDA

On Wednesday 24 February, pupils in Year 4 set off to The Museum of Domestic Design and Architecture, part of Middlesex University’s Cat Hill Campus. The establishment houses one of the world’s most comprehensive collections of the 19th and 20th century decorative arts for the home. MoDA is often referred to as ‘the home of domestic design’ and it provides an invaluable resource for everyone interested in the history of design for domestic purposes.

The pupils had a rare chance to explore the museum’s Silver Studio collection too, which is of national importance. It serves as the main archive of one of Britain’s leading commercial design studios, active between 1880 and 1963. It comprises over 40,000 paper designs, samples, pattern books, visual reference material, trade cards and other printed ephemera.

Besides the above, the pupils took part in some weaving sessions, perfecting their skills whilst recreating some intricate designs. Thank you to Miss Hawkins for organizing the trip.  VN
