Visit to Tanzania
From the 4th to the 23rd of August, five pupils travelled on a school trip to Tanzania. The main aim of the trip was to visit a rural Maasai school, Noonkodin Secondary school, one of Highgate’s partnership schools. We did two weeks of teaching there in a variety of subjects, from African poetry in English to Chemistry experiments and simultaneous equations. To get a sense of the cultural background to the school, we visited a Maasai homestead, and were taught how to milk goats, taken on a walk through the bush to learn about medicinal plants, and make the traditional Maasai beaded jewellery. The trip ended with a weekend safari to Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara. The trip was a resounding success, and a wonderful way to experience a culture entirely different to our own. CCN
