Y7 Normandy Visit
During the summer holidays, a group of 40 Year 7 pupils went to the North Western region of France called Normandy to improve their French skills and vocabulary through fun activities. The ‘Château de la Baudonnière’ gave us an opportunity to learn French by listening and talking in French throughout fun activities and interaction with French native speakers; as opposed to studying in a classroom. The team building activities at ‘the Château’ also allow pupils to learn new vocabulary while they are doing team fun activities throughout the week.

Along with our exclusive accommodation, the Château also has a rock-climbing wall, a lake, a mini-farm and acres of land. The native French staff did not speak any English to us which meant that we had to speak only French. This was excellent since we could constantly practise our language skills.

The activities included Bread Making, Circus, Aéroballe, Canoeing and Orienteering. We also visited the nearby town and strolled around its market, which had livestock (not to keep as pets...) clothes and food for sale. This helped us practise our shopping vocabulary as well as our bargaining skills. We also paid a visit to the famous 360° cinema in Arromanches, where we viewed exciting footage from war correspondents filmed on D-Day.

This adventure and language packed week couldn’t have happened without the help and hard work of Mr Le Berre and Ms Church. On behalf of the whole group, I would like to thank them for their efforts in organising this successful week. Keren Fidelmann, Y7
