Zoo Visit

On Wednesday 12 May, Year 4 pupils set off to explore ‘Habitats and Adaptations’ at London Zoo with the focus on expanding prior investigation-based knowledge on biodiversity and its importance in places such as the rainforests of South America or the British woodland. The pupils took part in an interactive workshop on ‘Minibeasts’, discovering the rich variety of invertebrate life and learned how to classify these animals using a combination of keys, costumes and – where possible – live animals.

The unmissable targets on the day turned out to be the tropical Butterfly Paradise, Gorilla Kingdom, the Blackburn Pavilion bird house, the BUGS exhibit and the Clore Rainforest Lookout; the latter bringing down the barriers between animals and onlookers by creating a basement-to-rooftop South American rainforest under a translucent roof, giving visitors the unique opportunity to wander around a tropical rainforest at canopy and forest floor level. Thanks to Louise Foster for the enjoyable and informative visit.  VN
