charity week

Charity

Charity Week raised a fantastic £8,250 for WaterAid, Childline and the Muswell Hill Soup Kitchen.

Throughout the week there was a constant jangle of coins falling into buckets, and the week was notable for its community atmosphere. Central Hall was full of cheers and frustrations at heated FIFA games, delicious smells from The Lodge cake sale and Midgate selling their smoothies. Eastgate refereed another tightly contested arm-wrestling competition and Heathgate found that some surprising candidates had the biggest appetite for crackers. Pupils also played games of 5-a-side football in a knockout tournament, which was won by a team of Year 10s.

Tuesday lunchtime was the sold-out pub quiz, with pupils and staff joining forces to make teams of six. The questions posed by Julius Grower were varied and challenging, and ultimately a team of teachers won after some debate about the classification of grizzly bears. Housemasters and senior teachers also willingly and with great good-humour gave up a lunchtime to have sponges thrown at their faces in the stocks.

Dawn-risers saw charity breakfasts across the foundation, with fantastic entertainment from Sam Carl on acoustic guitar, who went on later to give a moving rendition of Radiohead’s Creep in the Let Me Entertain You final which closed the week. The contest was won by Tom Stephens, and had some fantastic performances from all involved.
