Public Benefit and Charity

At Highgate, we believe that community service starts in the classroom and extends beyond it, requiring pupils to take an active part in the world in which they live. It fosters the pupils’ sense of responsibility and self-esteem while providing an insight into social patterns and ways of life.

We believe we have a moral and spiritual responsibility to play a full part in the life of the local community and that our participation can bring benefit not only to that community but also to ourselves as an educational institution.

Highgate has a varied and growing range of initiatives and activities in this field. This is the work of Sir Roger Cholmeley’s Charity, named after the founder of the school in 1565. Two senior teachers lead and develop the school’s activities: the Director of Community Partnerships (John Lewis) and the Director of Sir Roger Cholmeley’s Charity (Robert Wilne).
