HIGHGATE SCHOOL BACKGROUND
Highgate School has long been established as a centre for excellence in choral singing. The school has produced two of the 20th Century’s biggest names in choral music, Sir John Tavener and John Rutter CBE, as well as featuring on the original recording of Britten’s War Requiem in 1963. Highgate School currently has eight choirs across the Junior and Senior Schools with its most Senior Choir, Highgate Chorale, being crowned BBC Songs of Praise Senior School Choir of the Year 2014. The choirs regularly perform at external venues with performances at the Royal Festival Hall and services at St Paul’s and the Vatican in Rome last year. A number of pupils go on to achieve Oxbridge choral and organ scholarships upon leaving Highgate School each year and we are passionate about helping other young people to achieve this too.
IS THE COURSE FOR FOR ME?
The course is aimed at anyone aged 16-19 who is interested in finding out more about choral scholarship opportunities at university. The course will prepare you thoroughly for the application procedure and audition process. It is open to young people of all standards so don’t worry if you don’t have any previous experience of singing in a chapel setting – a love of singing is the most important thing we look for.
If you are still wondering whether the course is for you then please read some of our feedback from last year:
“I just wanted to thank you for having Hannah at your taster day. She really enjoyed it and came back from the course on a high!”
“Thank you ever so much for this. I thoroughly enjoyed the day last week and found all aspects of it extremely useful. It was particularly good having talks on the different parts of the audition process as well as applying this in both the Choral Masterclass and the Mock Audition.”
