HIGHGATE SCHOOL BACKGROUND
Highgate School has long been established as a centre for excellence in choral singing. The school has produced two of the 20th Century’s biggest names in choral music, Sir John Tavener and John Rutter CBE, as well as featuring on the original recording of Britten’s War Requiem in 1963. A number of pupils go on to achieve Oxbridge choral and organ scholarships upon leaving Highgate School each year and we are passionate about helping other young people to achieve this too.
WHAT HAPPENS ON THE COURSE?
The course is aimed at anyone aged 16-19 who is interested in finding out more about choral scholarship opportunities at university. The course will prepare you thoroughly for the application procedure and audition process. It is open to young people of all standards so don’t worry if you don’t have any previous experience of singing in a chapel setting – a love of singing is the most important thing we look for.
The course features the following:
• Information about choral scholarship opportunities from Directors of Music at top universities.
• Masterclasses with top choral conductors.
• An explanation of the audition process with the chance to see an mock audition – find out what they are really looking for!
• A mock audition with written feedback sent to participants after the course on what to improve ahead of their real audition
• Sight-singing training for beginners or a chance to take part in some consort singing for more advanced pupils.
