Highgate's 450th Anniversary
2015 marked 450 years since Sir Roger Cholmeley was granted Letters Patent to found "a grammar school... for good education and instruction." Today's Highgate is a thriving community of 1,600 pupils aged 3 to 18, and 6,000 OCs aged 18 to 100+
In celebration of the 450th year, we held a series of events marking this special anniversary. The new museum and Dr Ben Dabby's lecture and book on Sir Roger's life helped us to reflect on our heritage; the Commemorative Service at St Paul's allowed us to give thanks to our Founder and benefactors and the many musical, dramatic, artistic and sporting events throughout the year demonstrated the astonishing talents of our pupils and former pupils.
Thank you to all those that were involved in our Anniversary year: whether a parent supporting your child's performance in a concert or play, or an OC visiting Highgate from near or far, for the first time or the umpteenth. We hope you enjoyed the celebrations as much as we did.
In celebration of our 450th Anniversary, artist and Highgate parent, Mike Smith, produced a series of line-drawings from many of our events. These images for a unique, 'behind-the-scenes' record of our celebrations, especially as the majority of Mike's evocative images were produced 'live'. Click here to view the image gallery.
