Latest information and updates

Highgate School was closed on Friday 20 March and will re-open in September following government advice. Revisit Head Adam Pettitt’s message to our community:

It’s really important that the connections between people are kept alive […] The community that means so much to us, hasn’t left us. Through wonderful technology, we are still kept together.

—Adam Pettitt, Head

Key Workers

During lockdown, we committed to maintaining our support for the vital work which key workers undertake. The School had a team of volunteers from our support and teaching staff to provide care for pupils whose parents are key workers.

From June we gradually re-introduced lessons in School for Pre-Prep, Junior, Y10 and Y12 pupils with socially distanced regulations in place. You can see some photos and quotes from children on this page.

From September, in line with government advice, all children will be returning to school. We will be in touch with parents regularly to share more detailed information.

We understand that this can be an unsettling time for pupils and if anyone requires emotional support, please contact

The lessons have brought back a bit of normality and a schedule to my daily life —Benny , Year 13
I'm really happy to be back in school because I can see my friends —Pupil, Year 6

Here is some government guidance for parents and carers on supporting children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Parents of Y11 and Y13 pupils who would have taken exams have been sent further information about the calculation of results.

Highgate staff, alumni and parents have been involved in many activities to support keyworkers, NHS staff and members of the community who may be struggling. Examples include:

  • Head Adam Pettitt raised over £68,000 to buy 300+ laptops for Year 13 pupils at partner state schools. He raised the money by running a marathon (96 laps!) around the School field. Read more here
  • PPE: the DT department with LAET made 6240 face shields, 550 ear protectors and 2 ventilator masks. Read more here
  • We opened our sports field for local people to enjoy daily exercise. Read more here
  • The Science department donated 280 pairs of safety goggles to the Whittington Hospital.
  • A Highgate community coronavirus fund is raising money for LAET families and services in Tottenham. Click here to donate
  • Set up a Summer school to help bridge the Covid-19 learning gap for pupils at  partner state schools.

‘We’re impressed by the philanthropy and the outward-facing attitude (lots of volunteering opportunities), and by the scholarly teaching and academic aspiration’

—Tatler 2019
