The School's Library Hosted Year 7's Science Fair
TWO WEEK LONG SCIENCE PROJECT CULMINATED IN A FAIR IN THE SCHOOL LIBRARY
On Thursday 29th June the school library held our first Year 7 Science Fair. Every student in the year had spent two weeks working on a group project in which they had to choose an area of Science to research and conduct their own experiment. The culmination was the presentation of their work at the Science Fair, with the challenge being to engage visitors in their topic, and communicate their scientific ideas clearly.
The standard of work produced was outstanding, and the confidence with which students spoke about their work was extremely impressive. Some highlights include a fascinating investigation in which one group tested how changing the colour of a liquid affected participants’’ taste, which they then linked to the effects of synaesthesia. Elsewhere another group measured to what extent different preservatives limited the growth of mould on bread.
The buzz in the library was fantastic, and it was brilliant to see Year 7 students engaging so enthusiastically with Science. We look forward to running this project and event again next year.
