Highgate Women: Abi Morgan
WRITER ABI MORGAN SPOKE TO US ABOUT HER LIFE, WORK AND INSPIRATIONS
On Wednesday 9 May, we welcomed Abi Morgan to speak to parents, OCs and pupils from Highgate and our partner schools.
Abi, as well as being a Highgate parent, is an Emmy Award-winning playwright and screenwriter, known The Hour, The Iron Lady, Suffragette, and BBC One’s The Split.
After being introduced by Year 12 pupil, George Blumenthal, Abi spoke engagingly and humorously about her life, work, and inspirations. Abi spoke from the heart about her background in world of the theatre - growing up with a mother and father who were actor and director respectively – and touched on the different skills required to write for film, television and theatre.
After the wonderful talk, Year 12 pupil Zoe Pomphrett ably interviewed Abi, deftly leading an interesting discussion about feminism and why Abi always bases her work around female characters. This led in to an interesting Q&A, before lively and varied discussions continued afterwards in the reception that followed this event.
