House Singing Competition
EASTGATE SCOOP FIRST PLACE WITH JAMES BOND MEDLEY
Over the first week and a half of term, pupils from Years 9-13 spent half their time singing, and there was nowhere in the school where one wouldn’t be serenaded by a house practising for the 2018 House Singing Competition. The unique event, held this year on 12 September in Alexandra Palace, is always full of wonderful arrangements, with this year certainly being no exception.
With over 1,000 audience members in attendance, the pressure was on for each house to give a performance full of energy and conviction. And what a wonderful job they all did! Unfortunately, our adjudicator, Bob Chilcot, couldn’t award first place to all twelve houses.
Northgate came close, coming in fourth place with their arrangement of ‘Grenade’ by Bruno Mars. Kingsgate took third place, with a wonderful mashup of Adele songs. Heathgate were close, but not close enough, taking second with a spirited performance of ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ by Gotye. In the end though, Eastgate reclaimed first spot, after losing out last year, to win the title for the fourth time in five years with an atmospheric James Bond medley arrangement, featuring ‘Writing's on the Wall’ by Sam Smith and ‘Skyfall’ by Adele.
