Our Senior School was buzzing with activity and excitement before half term, as pupils took part in events to support the Rainforest Alliance.
Highlights included busking bands during break, who delighted pupils and teachers with cover versions and original compositions, and Boys v Girls netball, when our First XI footballers challenged our First netball team to an exciting lunchtime match. (The Girls won!)
Sixth former Maryam, a member of our Charity and Community Action Committee which organised events, said: ‘This year’s Charity and Community Week was filled with new ideas, from live bands to a netball match. Lots of people baked cakes and we ran three bake sales, each in three locations. Guessing from the money we have already counted, they were all very successful!’
Highgate’s annual Charity and Community Week also included a charity breakfast, charity quiz and a non-uniform day. Many pupils got involved in smaller events such as a Guess the Teacher contest (using photographs of teachers when they were children) and a Guess the Sweets in the Jar competition.
While the money raised is still being counted, it is expected to be over £5,000 in aid of Rainforest Alliance, our Senior School charity of the year. Highgate has undertaken fundraising events over the years for different environmental charities but this is the first time we have done so during Charity and Community Week.
Thanks to all pupils and staff who gave their time and money to support our Charity and Community Week.
