Our Careers and Employability team is thrilled to have won the accolade of Best Careers Programme at the 2020 RateMyApprenticeship Awards.
Celebrating the outstanding achievements of apprentices, schools & colleges, employers and training providers in apprenticeships, the Awards saw over 400 people come together virtually to recognise the industry’s finest.
Amandeep Jaspal, Highgate School’s Careers and Employability Specialist, said: “Schools around the country play a crucial role in supporting young people to prepare for the future: it’s a real honour, therefore, to have been recognised as having the Best Careers Programme by the RateMyApprenticeship judges. Our activity is embedded throughout the School curriculum and is actively supported by so many people including parents, former pupils, employers and our local state school pupils and teachers.”
Judges acknowledged Highgate’s focus on helping pupils to develop vital, transferable employability skills. Through specialist careers advice – and a series of events throughout their time at the School – pupils gain a greater understanding of themselves, their interests and the pathways available to them.
Louise Shelley, Deputy Head, Careers and Employability, added: “Our aim has been to develop a dynamic Careers and Employability programme that responds to the rapidly evolving external markets and enables our pupils (and those from our partner schools) to develop the requisite employability skills and values to be successful. This award is a fantastic acknowledgement of how far we’ve come to date and we’re certainly excited about what the future holds.”
The programme, shaped by pupil, parent and employer feedback, is firmly embedded into the curriculum and contains a series of year-group specific activities including Q&A sessions (with professionals from diverse career pathways) and practice employment interviews. The benefits extend to pupils beyond Highgate: evening events such as the annual Careers Fair, held earlier this year, welcomes hundreds of pupils from across the capital to hear from delegates from a host of different industries.
