On the 7th July 2018 Highgate School CCF set off to St. Martin’s Plain Camp for their Annual CCF Camp. Hosted by London District Brigade, the cadets enjoyed a varied programme of military and adventurous training.

The training offered a range of water and land based activities. On the water the cadets tried their hand at kayaking and canoeing. While on land the cadets tested their nerve and their physical skills with climbing, archery and 4×4 buggies.

Shooting formed a large part of the camp, giving the cadets an opportunity to fire live ammunition from the L98A2 Cadet GP rifle in prone, seated, kneeling and standing positions at distances from 100m – 300m. All cadets achieved a shooting badge with some cadets achieving marksman awards.

During the week the cadets also had the opportunity to go paint-balling, orienteering and try their leadership skills in command tasks as well as take part in an obstacle course where they had to work together to overcome the obstacles. They were also taught how to carry out house clearances and got the chance to fire blank ammunition in a mock up town centre.
