Thanks to your collective generosity, the total pledged at our recent Gala stands at over  £530,000 and rising. This figure will be directed towards bursaries, and the impact on children’s lives at Highgate will be tangible and significant.

New Junior School Bursaries

The evening celebrated the launch of our ambition to offer bursary places in the Junior School, for entry in Year 3 (7+).  Offering bursaries at this point takes advantage of our fantastic Junior School site, and means that the impact on children’s learning and development will be transformational. Offering bursaries at this entry point is another way to make our classrooms diverse and more representative of the community we serve.

Fundraising Gala night 3

Over 270 guests attended including parents, OCs, staff and governors. We were delighted to welcome Dr Who’s first female lead, Jodie Whittaker; actor, writer and comic Sanjeev Bhaskar and criminal barrister and television personality Robert ‘Judge’ Rinder, as well as former Bursary holders, who spoke movingly about their time at the school.

The impact on people’s lives

A former bursary recipient, spoke from his heart at the Gala and explained:

“I guess what I’m trying to illustrate is that Highgate is less of a school to me but more of a family.”

A community of kindness and learning

Rina Mjeku, also a former bursary recipient said:

However, education isn’t just about perfect spelling or knowing your times tables, it’s also about learning from others. This becomes so much more beneficial when these people come from different backgrounds to you. They have different experiences and different outlooks on life which can only stand to make you more well-informed and open-minded – two very important attributes in society today.

I am extremely grateful to the teachers who took the time to explain things I didn’t understand, to the friends I made here who were extremely kind and welcoming to me, to the school for providing such a wonderful support system and of course, to the generous donors who funded my education, without whom none of this would have been possible.”
