Highgate Junior School and Pre-Prep have been recognised in The Week Independent Schools Guide for our community partnerships and kind ethos.
As part of the magazine’s annual guide to the best prep schools in the UK, Highgate was selected ‘Best for School Partnerships’ and runner up in their ‘Best for Kindness’ category.
Principal of the Junior School, Philippa Studd, responded, saying: “It is lovely to be recognised by The Week for the work we do at Highgate Junior and Pre-Prep School to instil a positive sense of community both within the school and beyond our walls.”
Across the school, we aim to foster a reflective and supportive community, with a focus on kindness, friendship and respect. From their formative years, children become aware of the world around them and how they can make a positive contribution. From the Y2s, who learn about migration and refugees, writing friendship letters to local refugee children, to the Y6 pupils who visit a nearby school to practice reading and cookery skills; our partnerships are designed to be mutually beneficial to all.

At our Junior School Early Morning Maths, Chorus, Science and DTE partnership clubs, pupils are joined by children from local state schools to enjoy socialising and sharing common interests.
Children visit local care homes to offer companionship and engage in music and drama activities with the elderly residents.
Y4-5 pupils spent time with Heath Hands in the autumn, learning about local wildlife, raking leaves and clearing nettles; helping to preserve our nearby green spaces.
Pre-Prep and Junior School pupils make regular donations to Food Bank Aid. Last year, two Junior School pupils took part in a video campaign for them, learning more about the impact they have in the community.
Philippa Studd concluded: “Pupils at the school feel a great sense of pride and responsibility for the work we do as part of our community partnerships and enjoy the links and opportunities such relationships afford.”
