We are very pleased to announce the continuation of author visits to Highgate as an important part of keeping pupils engaged with reading.

On Thursday 5 November, the author Christopher Edge visited the school via Zoom to talk to the Year 5 pupils.

Storytelling: Magic, Science and Adventure

Christopher has made a name for himself by writing highly original books which present complex scientific ideas in a way that is engaging, humorous, and often moving. Readers can follow his heroes as they try and grapple with creating wormholes to parallel universes, attempt to escape black holes, possibly contact alien-life, and many more adventures. His award winning children’s titles include The Many Worlds of Albie Bright, The Jamie Drake Equation, The Infinite Lives of Maisie Day.

Zoom Workshop Fun – Pupil Feedback:

The different classes tuned into Christopher’s live workshop virtually, and we are pleased to say, fun was had by all. Pupil Anoushka said “I really enjoyed the author talk as we got to learn some interesting science such as the Big Bang and I found it fascinating to find out about tiny particles constantly moving around.”

Christopher explained more on the themes of problem solving and imaginative science in his books. Year 5 Alex said “I enjoyed the coding part where we learnt to interpret symbols into letters. We generated our very own language codes too.”
