This half term, Highgate presented its annual French drama production, La Soirée Française, a charming evening of music and drama, performed in French by Senior School Pupils.

This innovative collaboration between the French department and the brilliant Drama technical team is a longstanding Highgate tradition, that offers pupils a chance to enhance their fluency in French in a fun and creative environment. This year’s programme featured sketches from Year 7 and 9 pupils, breathtaking vocal performances of songs by Edith Piaf and Les Blue Stars, and Year 12’s production of Potiche, a comédie française championing female empowerment in the late 1980s.

Louis, in Y12, enthused, “I had a great experience working on the play this year, and loved seeing it evolve into a night full of cheese, wine, and cabaret. Despite the fact that I didn’t know my cast-mates very well to begin with, by the end, through hours of rehearsals, we had all became great friends. Performing in front of friends and family alike in another language was so much fun. The memories, both on- and off-stage, will surely stay with me for a long time.”
