It was Mentoring Monday at Highgate last week with pupils taking part in two exciting events: rap mentoring with music producer and rapper Capo Lee, and Year 12 pupils travelling to LAE Tottenham to take part in the annual Employability Mentoring Programme.
At the music mentoring session, Capo met with pupils, who currently write, perform and produce their own music, and he advised pupils about how to share their own music as well as providing them with general studio advice and support. A valuable takeaway included his advice that “Doing what you enjoy brings out your best. It shows when you’re having fun.”
In the evening, the Employability Mentoring programme began, bringing together Year 12 Highgate and LAE Tottenham pupils and matching them to external mentors (consisting of volunteer alumni and parents) from industry areas in which pupils had expressed an interest. Over the next 8 weeks, pupils will draw on the knowledge and expertise of their mentors who have been drawn from a range of fields of employment including: Aerospace Engineering, Consultancy, Medicine and Musical Theatre. They’ll work with their mentor to enhance their personal growth, develop their employability skills and gain a valuable insight into the world of work. AJ
