We’ve opened our sports field to locals who don’t have access to outside space during the Covid-19 crisis. Those who miss their daily visit to the gym, the opportunity to get their 10,000 daily steps in or simply amble in solitude are welcome to access our exercise pitch.

Outdoor space for all

Many who don’t have their own outdoor space or find the prospect of entering a large public park daunting, might like access to our sports field to absorb their Vitamin D and get some fresh air. Although School remains open to keyworkers’ children and some staff during the day, Head Adam Pettitt said:

“We want everyone to have the opportunity to enjoy daily exercise, even if they don’t have access to a garden or park during the current lockdown.”

Open to Locals on Weekday Mornings and Evenings

From 6.30am -8am and 4.30pm and 7pm each weekday, residents who live within the local area are welcome to come and enjoy the sports field free of charge. Up to 40 locals can take part in safely spaced runs and walks during these public opening times. We are keen to stress that we don’t want to encourage travel from further afield and are only making the facilities available to those who can walk to the School from nearby, and on an hour by hour basis as part of the daily exercise permitted by the government. Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted to come into the School’s grounds. Highgate Primary School will also be using Highgate School’s fields on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

There will be light staff present to ensure two metre spacing is respected. All visitors can enjoy their own pace of exercise equally – whether it’s strolling one lap with a coffee in hand or completing 10k for a personal best!

We particularly wish to assist vulnerable people or those with mobility issues who may be struggling to feel safe taking essential exercise in local parks or on the Heath. If you would like enquire further about this opportunity, please contact community@highgateschool.org.uk.
