Pre-Prep children presented their end of term production last week, celebrating a range of winter festivals observed within the school community.
This year’s production, “A light in every house, on every street”, followed a band of aliens who crash landed in the Pre-Prep playground, having been blinded by the winter lights around North London. As the aliens set out to explore the local community, they visited three different families amid their celebrations, discovering the traditions symbolised by the glow of Diwali Diyas, Hanukkah candles and Christmas tree lights.
Drama Teacher, Esen Bozkaya, devised the show in consultation with families in the Pre-Prep to personalise the experience for our children. She explains, “The input from parents and colleagues has been so valuable – they’ve given me ideas of songs and dances to include and helped to check cultural details. We had parents sending in photos of their winter celebrations, which we included as part of the show.”
Esen continues, “The whole idea of exploration is our way of working in the Pre-Prep, enabling the children to explore the world and see things from different points of view. We try to reference stories, songs and activities from as many different cultures as much as possible throughout the year, so that it’s a normal part of their school experience.”
Earlier in the year, Pre-Prep children explored some of the Spring Festivals through a morning of fun culturally themed activities. Read more in our news story here.
