Last week, our Y5 children headed off for an exciting adventure to Sayers Croft Outdoor Learning Centre for three days of team-bonding with their new classmates.

As they journey through the Junior School, pupils transition to a new form when they reach Year 5, and this trip offers a great opportunity to build friendships whilst trying out some fun activities. From climbing walls to campfires, obstacle courses to compass trails, pupils were challenged to try something new, whilst working together as a team and making some great memories along the way.

Nathan Wooding, our Head of Y5, shares some reflections from the trip:

A few days on from our return, the mud has been washed away (mostly), the lost property has been reunited with its owners (mostly), and what remains are the benefits of a truly valuable few days together.

Our time at Sayers Croft gave the children the perfect opportunity to throw themselves into new challenges and, just as importantly, to get to know their new classmates. Whether they were building ballistae, clambering over boulders, or navigating the woods with a compass, they worked together brilliantly. It has been wonderful to see how quickly those shared experiences have translated into the classroom: new friendships have formed, confidence has grown, and the year group feels settled and ready for the term ahead.

Some of the children were quoted as saying: “It was really fun and I especially loved the rock climbing and the challenge course. The time flew by so quickly!”

“I was so nervous at the start but it was so much fun. I didn’t realise the time was passing until it was time to come home. I got to know all of my new classmates so well too!”

“I loved the climbing and camp fire. The big dorms were really fun – we were all chatting and telling stories with torches! I wish it was for the whole week”
