There is no such thing as too small a gift: every gift makes a difference

We are grateful for every gift at any level. All donations go towards providing educational opportunities to bright young people that they may not be otherwise able to experience.

There are a range of ways to give, enabling making a difference to be both tax efficient and convenient. If you are interested in gifting shares, match giving or are considering leaving a legacy in your Will, you can read more about it below.

Ways to give

  • Gift Aid

Highgate is a registered charity (charity number 312765). Gifts can be made tax-efficient in the UK by checking the Gift Aid declaration box when giving online or by completing the declaration on your gift form. This enables us to claim an additional 25% from the Government for your gift, while higher rate tax-payers can themselves claim 20% tax relief on their gross donation. Please read more about if your gift is eligible for gift aid here

  • By cheque

To make a donation by cheque, please download a gift form and complete a Gift Aid declaration (if applicable).

Please post your gift form, with your cheque made payable to ‘Highgate School’, to: Development Office, Highgate School, North Road, London N6 4AY

  • By gift of shares

Giving via shares is one of the most tax efficient ways of making a charitable gift. If you would like to have a confidential conversation about making a gift of shares, please contact our Development Director on email: development@highgateschool.org.uk.

  • Match giving

Many companies will help support charities through a matched giving scheme, whereby they will match gifts donated by their employees. Some companies have formal schemes for matched funding, while others may consider each request on its own merits. In many cases, participating companies will match an employee’s donation pound for pound up to a set amount. A number of organisations will even double-match.

If you are interested in donating through the matching gift scheme, please contact your Human Resources department. By using this scheme you can make your gift worth even more to Highgate.

  • By leaving a legacy

In making your Will, we understand family and friends come first, but after you have taken care of those closest to you, a legacy gift, of any size, is the greatest honour Highgate can receive. By remembering Highgate in your Will, you have the opportunity to make an incredible difference to the school, the impact of which could be felt for generations to come.

As Highgate School is a charity (registered charity no. 312765), gifts made either during your lifetime or through your Will are generally free of tax if you are a UK taxpayer. (Please note: this is general guidance only and we recommend you seek independent legal and tax advice when making or amending your Will).

Unrestricted bequests enable us to use your legacy gift wherever the need is greatest at our School, whatever its current priorities, and give us useful flexibility. However, you may choose to direct your bequest towards a particular fund, for example our bursaries programme or our building funds.

We understand that your Will is private and you may not wish to tell us that you are intending to support Highgate with a legacy. However, if you would like to share your plans, we encourage you to do so and will then invite you to become a member of The 1565 Society. We hold an annual reception at which all 1565 Society members are thanked for their generosity. We want to celebrate the support we receive but we respect your wishes regarding your privacy wholeheartedly.

For a confidential conversation about leaving a legacy to Highgate, please contact our Development Director on email: development@highgateschool.org.uk or telephone: 020 8347 4431
