Shortlisting applications

All applications are reviewed in October. If we receive a high number of applications for the assessment slots available, we won’t be able to invite every child to an assessment and would need to make a shortlist.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to the first round of assessments by mid-October.

Assessments

The first round of assessments take place at our school in November.

Children will join a small group, with teaching staff leading them in story-time, various play-based activities and exploratory 1-2-1 tasks to assess learning readiness.

The outcome of this round will be sent to families at the beginning of December. We then invite the shortlisted children to a second assessment in early January. This follows the same format but explores children’s understanding and capabilities in greater depth.

Offers

The outcome of the second assessments will be sent to families in late January. Should your child be in the position of receiving several offers from different schools, or you would like to ask further questions, there is an event for offer holder families held at school in late January.

Families will need to respond to the offer of a place by early February, with a deposit payable by the deadline.

Welcome events

During the summer term, new children attend a taster session to meet their teacher and new classmates. ‘Stay and Sing’ sessions and a family picnic will help new pupils feel comfortable and excited about starting school.

Parents are invited to a welcome evening to provide information before the start of term. Pupils will join Reception in early September with a staggered settling in process during their first week.
