Joining Highgate

4+ entry

In September 2021, there will be places at 4+ (Reception) entry for approximately 20 pupils (boys and girls born between 1.9.16 and 31.8.17 ) to join the 40 children progressing from our 3+ Nursery class. In September 2022 (boys and girls born between 1.9.17 and 31.8.18) there will be places for 60 children who will be able to join at 4+ (Reception).

Our Pre-Prep is heavily over-subscribed and we are unfortunately unable to see all the children who make an application for assessment.

Key dates 4+ entry in 2021

Application deadline for 4+ entry in 2021: Applications should be submitted in autumn 2020. Precise information will be published in March 2020. We are unable to accept applications BEFORE this time, please do not submit applications now as these cannot be accepted. Application fee: £150 (payable when shortlisted for an assessment)
4+ entrance assessments: Two rounds of assessment take place in the January preceding entry to Highgate. The birth date of a child is taken into consideration when reviewing assessments.
Offer letters sent: Late January 2021
Acceptance deadline: Early February 2021

Admissions timeline for 2021: Please note that the exact timeline and format of assessments is still to be decided. The below outline of dates and processes is intended as a guide only, at this stage.

Shortlisting of Applications 4+
November 2020

All applications are reviewed, with shortlisted candidates invited to the first round of assessments in January and asked to pay the application fee. Candidates not shortlisted are also notified.

Assessments 4+
January 2021

The first round of assessments takes place in early January. Candidates are seen in small groups for an informal play session of around an hour.

Subsequently, shortlisted candidates are invited to a second assessment later in January. This follows the same format but explores children’s understanding and capabilities in greater depth.

Successful candidates 4+
Early February 2021

The outcome of our assessments are sent. In view of their existing relationship, parents of applicants with siblings currently in our Pre-Prep may be asked to meet our Principal and Head of Admissions before results are released. Regrettably, we are unable to provide feedback to other candidates.

Successful candidates must respond to any offer within a week.

Some candidates who narrowly missed out, due to the numbers of places available, are placed on a ‘reserve’ list which remains active for the rest of the academic year. We offer places to ‘reserve’ candidates should the appropriate number of offers not be accepted.
