Shortlisting applications

All applications are reviewed in October.

If the number of applications exceeds the available assessment places, it may not be possible to invite every child to attend an assessment and a shortlist will be drawn up.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend the first round of assessments by mid-October.

Assessments

The first round of assessments take place at our school in November.

Children will join a small group, with teaching staff leading them in story-time, various play-based activities and exploratory 1-2-1 tasks to assess learning readiness.

The outcome of this round will be sent to families at the beginning of December. We then invite the shortlisted children to a second assessment in early January. This follows the same format but explores children’s understanding and capabilities in greater depth.

Offers

The outcome of the second assessments will be sent to families in late January.

If your child receives an offer of a place we will invite you to visit the school for a tour and to ask any questions before you make your decision.

We would require a response by early February and a deposit will be payable upon acceptance of the place.

Welcome events

During the summer term in June, all new children attend a taster session to meet their teacher and future classmates. ‘Stay and Sing’ sessions and a family picnic help children feel comfortable and excited about starting school.

Parents are also invited to a welcome evening to receive information ahead of the start of term. Pupils join Reception in early September with a staggered settling in period during their first week.
