Economics

Highgate Economics Department offers a pacey and scholarly A Level that exposes our sixth formers to the subject’s core technical models. We teach Economics from first principles, ensuring students gain a deep understanding of the building blocks of the subject, drawing broadly on current affairs to develop applications, and seeking out interesting materials from popular and academic publications.

Economics is a wide-ranging discipline that provides a logical and rigorous framework for answering fundamental questions.  A social science in every sense of the term, Economics takes a scientific approach to exploring social phenomena. Technically rigorous and conceptually unique, it prepares students to become critical and analytical thinkers.

A comprehensive programme of extension classes gives students a broader lens on the subject, including History of Economic Thought, Quantitative Economics and a deeper exploration of contemporary applied case-studies. Through lectures, competitions and clubs, A Level students have the opportunity to explore the subject well beyond the syllabus.
