Highgate encourages sustainable travel; we aim to reduce car use and emissions, with seven school bus routes, cycling schemes and a Walking Bus for younger years
We encourage pupils to walk, cycle (or scoot) to school to promote less congestion in the area and greener local air! We have plenty of bike and scooter storage at both school sites, and also run a bicycle maintenance club for pupils to make sure they keep their modes of transport safe and in good working order. Bishopswood Road has a designated cycle area marked out for secure access to the Junior and Pre-prep Schools.
We offer a school bus service for our Junior and Senior School pupils which has cut approximately 35,000 individual car journeys to and from our School. We received a ‘School of Excellence’ Gold Stars sustainable travel award from Transport for London, in recognition of our School bus service success and other activities to reduce reliance on cars.
Seven School bus routes are operated independently for Highgate pupils, and each vehicle is tracked, allowing parents to see its location via their PC or smartphone. We strive to continually optimise routes, maximise number of users and introduce buses operating from new locations.
For 2020-21, we have added new routes from Islington, Stoke Newington, Highbury, Hornsey, Crouch End, Golders Green and Hampstead Garden Suburb. All route maps can be viewed in our Transport Brochure.
Both our Senior and Junior School buildings have electronic transport information boards providing “real time” data, direct from TfL on tube & bus services in the local area.
