Outdoor education helps you get beyond your comfort zone, enjoy the great outdoors, build resilience and understand the importance of teamwork. At Highgate, we run activities in our School grounds, on nearby Hampstead Heath and at our Snowdonia centre, as well as elsewhere in the UK and abroad. Highgate remains Haringey’s biggest Duke of Edinburgh centre.
‘Our aim is that pupils leave Year 6 with a positive view of their ability in all subjects. We take a creative and flexible approach with mathematics teaching, where deeper and richer understanding is nurtured. We also ensure that pupils understand how subjects are related and that mathematics connects to science, engineering and art, plus other creative disciplines. We encourage pupils to make links, work collaboratively, and become flexible and adaptable learners.’
—Mr James, Principal of Highgate Junior School
Highgate offers Interdisciplinary Design which is beyond the usual curriculum; it combines aspects of Design Technology and Art, preparing students for employment in the creative industries.
‘Studying Interdisciplinary Design and Fine Art in Highgate Sixth Form opened my eyes to creative career paths which I never thought possible. Getting an offer to study fashion at Central St Martins has been life changing for me.‘
—Harry, Year 13
Highgate Pre-Prep provides a strong foundation for literacy and numeracy learning beyond the early years.
‘During their time in our Pre-Prep, pupils acquire knowledge and understanding, whilst developing social and personal skills. Our broad and balanced curriculum ensures pupils become competent, confident learners who take pride in their achievements and are ready for the next stage of their educational journey.’
—Mr Zucker, Highgate Pre-Prep Deputy Principal
